That allowing the proposed project (a Sh28 billion hotel complex) “would act as a floodgate for such skyscrapers” fails to convey the CS’s intended meaning. Rather, Balala believes allowing construction of the hotel would open the floodgates for similar ones – meaning more hotels would be put up, which would destroy Watamu as a beach destination.

The government will spend Sh40 million to build a police station at the Nyansiongo settlement scheme in Borabu after the Standard newspaper’s pictorial went viral (Standard, July 19, p.12). Sh40 million to build a police station? Lisimam said the allocation was in the current financial year with the Borabu Constituency Development Fund allocating Sh1 million for the construction of the administration block for the station. What will be the rest of Sh39 million used for?
